Area is used by rafting company (ACE?) for camping and river boat access--campsites are on higher terraces with hemlock/rhododendron. Just downstream is shallow rapids and across river is a more open woodland on boulder/cobble. High wall behind RR tracks across river.;Sandy deposition bar near downstream end of a pool, just above a riffle 20 m E. Narrow point bar deposition is still very wide for the Gauley. This woodland c.t. dominated by river birch, occurs of the low terrace to the river edge. Well developed shrub and herb layers-recently knocked down by flooding (but not heavily impacted compared to herb c.t.).
Representativeness
Small patch of riverscour woodland which is wider and more developed than the usual narrow edge. Plot is rectangle to sample total width of woodland physiognomy ~1 m elevation range in plot.
